Churches contribution to a sustainable society - Between despair and hope: What must be done, and how do we do it?

A conference arranged in cooperation between the Church of Norway and the European Christian Environmental Network

25-28. May 2019 Oslo, Rønningen Folkehøyskole

Churches contribution to a sustainable Society

Welcome to a conference arranged in cooperation between the Church of Norway and the European Christian Environmental Network (ECEN).

Under the umbrella of Oslo, the European green capital 2019, we invite you to learn how churches can be agents of change for a more sustainable society; to respond to the Paris climate agreement and the UN sustainable
development goals.

We will investigate what has happened and what is being done now in churches, both in Oslo and all over Europe.

We will look at the challenging situation we face and the biblical rationale for taking action to change it. You will have the opportunity to learn about the situation in Norway and particularly in Oslo.

Along with presentations, you will be able to meet local communities, visit projects and experience the sights, the smells and the sounds of Oslo. You may also experience a hike in the nearby forest, a boat-trip in the Oslo fjord, or a visit to the amazing Hope Cathedral project in nearby Fredrikstad.

Location

The venue is Rønningen Folkehøyskole,  beautifully situated in the outskirts of Oslo with access to sport facilities, public transport and hiking in the forest. Rønningen is a Christian boarding school (YWCA/YMCA), newly renovated to a high standard as a hostel. The hostel can serve food to meet all dietary requirements.

How to get there

Rønningen may be reached by Metro (line 5) and bus (56), or by tram (line 12) and bus (56) There is a 500 m walk from the bus stop. You can also take the train (R30) to Kjelsås and then walk 1,2 km from there. Check details with google maps. If needed we may meet you at Oslo Central Station.

You may reach Oslo by train from Sweden, or by ferry from Copenhagen, Frederikshavn (Denmark) or Kiel (Germany).

There are also flights from several European cities to Oslo Airport (OSL). From there you can take the train to the central station in 20 min. There are two railway companies. The NSB takes 2-3 minutes longer but is the cheapest.
